Delbert Orand, age 72, of Astoria, died Wednesday, December 15th, 2010, at home. He was born June 17th, 1938, in Astoria, to Emmett and Dorothy Orand. He married June Orand. She preceded him in death after 33 years of marriage. On Aug. 26, 1995, he married Marjorie Jones in Astoria. She survives. Mr. Orand was a longshoreman for 34 years, retiring in 1997. He was a lifetime resident of Astoria. He was a member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local No. 50. Family members said his nickname was Snake-whistle. He was an avid Keno player, and loved to drive his truck. He enjoyed restoring cars and attending his children and grandchildren’s ball games. He enjoyed a special friendship with everyone at Paramount Drug Co. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Darrell and Rita Orand of Oregon City and Jay and D’Ann Orand of Salem; a sister, Sharon Witsberger of Astoria; three daughters, Teri Hall of Astoria, Brenda Johnson of Warrenton and Tami Orand of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two stepdaughters, Michelle Bolton of Astoria and Janelle Adams of Hammond; nine grandchildren, Tracy and Rob Sammons, Shane Hall, Kristen and Brent Saulsbury, Jessica, Tori and Bethany McDonald and Daniel Adams; and a great-grandson, Payton Sammons. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Donny and Denny Ray Orand and Dave Jeffers. A memorial will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton. Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary in Astoria is in charge of the arrangements.
