George Alexander Foster

George Alexander Foster, age 93, of Seaside, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, in Seaside. He was born Dec. 16, 1916, in Astoria, to Eli Ellis and Agnes Blanche (Court) Foster. On May 1, 1935, he married Violet Edna Pincott in Olney. She preceded him in death Feb. 17, 1998. Mr. Foster was raised and lived most of his life in Jewell, on the farm that his grandparents homesteaded. He started out logging and continued to log throughout his life. He and his wife owned and operated the Jewell Store for four years in the late 1940s. They sold it and bought the Elsie Grocery Store in the early 1950s, which they owned and operated for 23 years. In the mid-1970s, he began working for the Clatsop County Road Department, retiring in 1980. He continued living in Jewell and working on the farm until he moved to an assisted living facility in 2008. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Brub Norman of Jewell; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Allen Foster and Tim and Diana Foster, all of Jewell; seven grandchildren, Toby Norman of Elsie, Max Norman and his wife, Susan, Ray Norman and Lucas Foster, all of Jewell, Clayton Foster of Sherwood, Dewey Foster of Beaverton and Sadie Flores, and her husband, Rudy, of Eugene; eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Foster, in 1955; and two sisters. Mr. Foster requested that there be no service. Private burial was held at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
