Dan Mackey, 77, of Cannon Beach, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, in Astoria.

He was born Oct. 5, 1933, in Seattle, to Dan Mackey Sr. and Anna (Carlson) Mackey.

He graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Wash. He received a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Washington.

On Feb. 21, 1958, he married Arlene Adele Baker in Puyallup, Wash. She survives, residing in Cannon Beach.

Mr. Mackey worked for the U.S. Treasury Department in Washington, D.C., and in San Francisco for a few years. He then went to work at the University of California, Berkeley, in the president’s office, planning hospitals for all nine campuses in the U.C., Berkeley, system. He retired from his position in 1973, and the family moved to Ketchum, Idaho. He and his wife became self-employed in the restaurant/bakery business. While in Idaho, he served as a county commissioner and on the planning commission. In 1984, the couple moved to Cannon Beach, and have resided there since. He continued to pursue various interests which included being a real estate broker for Windermere.

Family members said his hobbies included golfing, camping and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Andrew Mackey of Cannon Beach; a daughter, Jenifer Becker of Cannon Beach; two granddaughters, Lara Foster of Hillsboro and Emily Becker of Cannon Beach; two sisters, Betty Starrett of Puyallup and Lauretta Erickson of Tacoma; and a niece, Linda Smith of Spanaway, Wash.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
