Kenneth William Huntley, 56, of Astoria died January 1, 2011 at home surrounded by family. He was born Aug 2, 1954 in Schenectady, NY to Harold W. and Maxine E. (Hughes) Huntley.
Ken enlisted in the Air Force on May 15, 1974 and served on active duty with the 15th Military Airlift Squadron, Norton AFB, CA as a C-141 Loadmaster. He separated from active duty in May 1978, spending the next 10 years working in the electronics industry in the Santa Clara Valley. He joined the 129th Rescue Squadron, Air National Guard, at Moffett Field, CA on July 31, 1988 as a C-130 Loadmaster. He attained the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He remained in the Air National Guard until his death.
His military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Aerial Achievement Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Air Force Achievement Medal.
Ken and his wife moved to Astoria in March of 2001 when his wife accepted a position with the 116th Air Control Squadron, Air National Guard, at Camp Rilea.
He is survived by his wife Lori (Perkin) Huntley; his daughter Kristen Hilton and husband Brian and granddaughter Caitlyn and daughter Kimberly Huntley of Sacramento; mother Maxine Martin of Sweet Home, OR and step-mother Gene Huntley of Lincoln City, CA; sister Barbara Scott and husband Ken of Sequim, WA; sister Judy Kwasman and husband Michael of Spokane, WA; brother Robert of Campbell, CA; step-sister Gretchen Truxal and husband Jeff of Granite Bay, CA; step-sister Joanne King and husband Bill of Maui, HI; step-sister Cena Jane Hartley and husband Roger of Sonoma, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Service and burial will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland on Jan. 12, 2011 at 1 p.m. Caldwell's Luce-Layton Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011 at 3 p.m. at 129 Rescue Wing, Moffett Field, Calif., located in Mountain View, Calif.
