Zuna Virginia Olson

Zuna Virginia Olson, 98, of Astoria, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, in Astoria.

She was born July 8, 1912, in Greybull, Wyo., to Jesse D. and Verna May Fenton Linn

She graduated from Franklin High School in Portland in 1930.

She attended college at Oregon Normal School (now Western Oregon State University) in Monmouth and received a bachelor’s degree in teaching in 1932. She taught in a rural school from 1933 to 1934 near Oregon City.

She married Don R. Olson in 1937 in Oregon City. He preceded her in death May 18, 1990.

Mrs. Olson was then employed by Oregon Physicians Service, Doctor’s Clinic, the Astoria Clinic and Columbia Memorial Hospital as an insurance clerk. She retired in 1981.

She was a member of the Astoria Christian Church and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a volunteer reader for the SMART program, volunteered for the food bank and was a helper at many senior citizen functions. Her hobbies included gardening and knitting.

She is survived by three brothers and two sisters-in-law, A.J. “Dick” and Marjorie Dickson of Stayton, Roy Dickson of Oregon City and Scottie and Ann Dickson of Mulino; one niece and her husband, Susan and Russ Farmer of Astoria, over saw her care; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Wiley.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary.

Private burial will follow at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.

Memorial Contributions may be given to Lower Columbia Hospice or the Astoria Christian Church in care of Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave., Astoria, OR 97103.
