Irene Lenore Ochal, 91, of Astoria, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, in Astoria.
She was born Oct. 18, 1919, in Ilwaco, Wash., to Christian Arthur Hanselman and Lempi Ida Hakala. She was raised in Ilwaco.
On March 30, 1937, she married John F. “Tony” Ochal in Buffalo, N.Y. He preceded her in death Feb. 4, 1978.
Mrs. Ochal worked as a waitress at the Fiesta Club in Astoria for many years.
Family members said they remember her love for cooking and baking. She enjoyed getting together with family and friends and reading mystery books.
She is survived by a son, Jim Ochal of Astoria; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Louise Beasley and Nellie and Don Beasley, all of Ilwaco, Betty Nielsen of Astoria, Polly Reed of Seaview, Wash., and Gladys and Wade Fink of Longview, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Feb. 4, at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, followed by a graveside service at 1 p.m. at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Oregon Heart Association, or a charity of one’s choice, in care of Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave., Astoria, OR 97103.
