Glenn A. Nelson

Glenn A. Nelson, age 89, of Lake Oswego, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, in Tualatin. He was born April 27, 1921, in Portland, to Andrew E. and Anna Nelson. He was raised in Portland. He graduated from Commerce High School, now Cleveland High School, where he was a member of the football team. After high school, he worked for Southern Pacific Railroad. During World War II, he enlisted and served in the U.S. Coast Guard. After his term of service, he returned to Portland and worked for Shell Oil Company. He then worked for Blue Cross of Oregon from 1958 to 1978. He is survived by a son, Gary Nelson of Lake Oswego; a sister-in-law, Helen Freeman of Astoria; a niece, Linda Bergerson and her husband, David, of Astoria; and two nephews, Lanny Freeman and his wife, Cathy, of Astoria and John Severson and his wife, Maryann, of Warrenton. A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at Caldwell's Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave. A reception will follow at the American Legion, 1132 Exchange St. Private burial will be held at Lewis & Clark Cemetery.
