Silas Jones Jr.

Silas Jones Jr., 90, of Warrenton, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at home.

He was born July 15, 1920, in New Liberty, Mo., to Silas Jones Sr. and Myrtle (Brawley) Jones.

On Sept. 6, 1947, he married Eileen Brown in Mammoth Springs, Ark. She survives, residing in Warrenton.

He served in the U.A. Army for three years. During World War II, he served in combat in the Pacific Theater in the New Guinea, Guadalcanal, Northern Solomons and Southern Philippines campaigns.

Mr. Jones worked logging and in saw mills in Colorado with his two brothers. In 1946, he came to the Warrenton area from Winona, Mo. He worked in saw mills in the Warrenton area, retiring in August 1985.

He was a member of the Warrenton Veterans of Foreign Wars, Clatsop Post 12 American Legion and Logan Road Chapel.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Ron Jones Sr. and his wife, Sharon, of Clatskanie; two grandchildren, Ron Jones Jr. and his wife, Agnas, of Svensen, and Renee Jones-Kyme of Salem; five great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Bryton Kyme, Zoie and Zachery Jones and Lexie Robinson; a sister, Mildred Domurath; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman, Emery and Lloyd Jones; and three sisters, Lola Buff, Lora Jones and Clares Johnson.

A memorial will be hel0d at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave.

Private inurnment will be at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
