Raymond Walter Perdue

Raymond Walter Perdue, 84, of Astoria, died Tuesday, March 15, 2011, in Seaside.

He was born June 4, 1926, in Hammond, to Ralph and Lily (Fulbright) Perdue.

He attended school in the Fort Stevens area of Hammond.

In 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until 1946.

He married Hazel Perdue. She survives, residing in Astoria.

After his time in the service, Mr. Perdue returned to Clatsop County and worked on the ships that were stationed at Tongue Point. He then went to work at Point Adams Cannery and worked there for 37 years. He retired in 1988.

Family members said his hobbies included hunting, fishing, painting by number and assembling models.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jerry and Joy Perdue of Astoria, Ray Perdue of Knappa and Ronald and Susan Perdue of Hammond; a daughter, LeEllen Sue Perdue Buchholz of Rockaway; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A memorial will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave.

Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of one’s choice.
