Alvin Loyd Holdiman III, 48, of Warrenton, died Sunday, March 13, 2011, in Kodiak, Alaska.
He was born Aug. 28, 1962, in Astoria, to Alvin Loyd Holdiman Jr. and Clara Kristine (Sorensen) Holdiman. His mother survives, residing in Warrenton. His father preceded him in death Feb. 4, 2003.
Mr. Holdiman graduated from Warrenton High School in 1981.
He started commercial fishing with his father during high school. In January 2000, he moved to Alaska and lived there for eight years. In 2008, he returned to Warrenton, while still making trips to Alaska to fish. He owned and operated his own fishing vessel out of Kodiak, Alaska, and fished the Bering Sea for king crab.
Family members said he loved the outdoors. His hobbies including, hunting, camping and fishing. Spending time with is family was very important to him.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Alina Holdiman-Ziak of Portland; two sons, Alvin Holdiman IV of Gabbs, Nev., and Joe Holdiman of Fallon, Nev.; a grandson, Aedan Cole of Portland; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Julie and Monte Salmi of Astoria and Sherry and Tony Wright of Warrenton; nine nieces and nephews, Jodi and Taylor Helmer, Jesse Kinnunen, Corinna Parada, Matt Kinnunen and Kiley Holdiman, all of Warrenton, Jenni and Ross Burns of St. Helens and Michael Salmi of Eugene; and three great-nieces and nephews, Ryker Burns of St. Helens and June Parada and Colton Helmer, both of Warrenton.
He was preceded in death by a niece, Misty Dawn Holdiman, Oct. 23, 1999.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 25, at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 26, at the Warrenton First Baptist Church, 30 N.E. First St. in Warrenton. A graveside service will follow at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Alvin Holdiman III Memorial Fund, in care of U.S. Bank, 987 Duane St., Astoria, OR 97103.
