Beatrice Helander Grenfell, 80, of Seaside, died Sunday, April 3, 2011, in Seaside.
She was born Feb. 20, 1931, in Lewiston, Idaho, to Charles A. and Edith Amelia (Johnson) Helander. She was raised in Lewiston.
She attended the University of Idaho. In 1949, she was the homecoming queen.
In 1952, she married James W. Grenfell, in Lewiston. They later divorced.
Mrs. Grenfell worked at Pacific Telephone Company as a service representative. She also worked at Rich’s Department Store, in Atlanta, in the china and crystal departments. She retired in 2002, and had been living in San Diego. She moved to Seaside in 2005 to live with her family.
She was affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in different cities where she lived. She was also a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority.
Family members said her hobbies included painting, sewing and cooking.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Nisha Grenfell of Seaside; two granddaughters, Jenny Grenfell of Portland and Farah Grenfell of Seaside; a sister, Agnes Dillon of Georgia; two nephews, John and Randy Dillon of Georgia; and two nieces, Vicki Stennes and Linda Buckingham of Georgia.
A private graveside service was held at Evergreen Cemetery in Seaside.
