Phyllis Myrtle Cure, 95, of Vancouver, Wash., formerly of Astoria and Warrenton, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, in Vancouver, Wash., with her daughter and granddaughters by her side.
She was born Oct. 5, 1915, in Portland, to Clifford U. and Myrtle (Hudson) Mannen. She was raised in the Willamette Valley.
On Dec. 23, 1933, she married James R. Cure in Forest Grove. He preceded her in death in 1992.
The couple eventually moved to Newport, where she was a homemaker. In 1951, the family moved to Warrenton, and lived there for six years. In 1957, they moved to the Lewis and Clark area of Astoria, where she stayed for 35 years. In 1992, she and her granddaughter moved to Camas, Wash., to be closer to family members. She spent her final years at Pacific Rehabilitation and Care center in Vancouver.
She was a member of the Lewis and Clark Bible church.
Family members said her greatest gift was her love and compassion for others. Her home was always open for family members to stay with her for as long as they wanted. She loved to read the Bible, attend church, and enjoyed writing letters to family members. She also loved and attended all family reunions.
