Henry J. “Hank” Anderson, 89, of Longview, Wash., formerly of Astoria, died Friday, July 8, 2011, in Longview.
He was born Jan. 19, 1922, in Fredrick, S.D., to John T. and Ida Moanue Anderson.
In 1939, he graduated from Newburg High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific.
From the Portland area, Mr. Anderson moved to Astoria and found work with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union. He then transferred to Longview because of a handicapped child, and worked for ILWU Local 21 until he retired.
He was a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, Rifle Club, and the Good Sam Club for Traveling.
Family members said his hobbies included fishing, hunting, gambling and watching ball games on TV. He also had a passion for motorcycles and flat track events.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Anderson of Longview; a daughter, Linda Manners of Longview; two grandchildren, Erica Harnar of Troutdale and Ryan Anderson of Portland; two great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Tristan Harnar of Troutdale; three stepchildren, Jack and Darcy Humphrey of Longview and Jim Gedenberg of Astoria; a stepson-in-law, Eddie Hayden of Clatskanie; a sister, Stella Twining of South Dakota; a nephew, Bert Parker of Astoria; a sister-in-law, Rosemary “Nellie” Parker of Portland; and a niece and numerous other nephews.
He was preceded in death by a previous wife, Betty Anderson; two sons, Darrell and Robert “Bobby” Anderson; and a stepdaughter, Agnes Hayden.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, July 15, and a funeral will take place at 1 p.m., at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave. A graveside service will follow at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton, and then there will be a reception at Doogers Seafood & Grill, 103 S. Highway 101 in Warrenton.
