Pauline Rose Mestrich

Pauline Rose Mestrich, 85, of Astoria, died Sunday, July 10, 2011, in Astoria.

She was born April 3, 1926, in Astoria, to Dr. Frank Friedrich and Henrietta (German) Friedrich.

Raised in Astoria, she attended St. Mary, Star of the Sea School. She then attended Marylhurst College in Portland from 1944 to 1945.

She married Charles Mestrich Sr. June 28, 1947, in Astoria. He survives, residing in Astoria.

Mrs. Mestrich was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Elks, Emblem Club, Rotary Anns, American Legion Auxiliary and the Star of the Sea Parents Club. She was also a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader.

Family members said her hobbies included painting, sculpting, sewing, knitting, music, cooking, cards and social groups.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Fred Mestrich and his wife, Ann, of Astoria, Charles Mestrich Jr. and his wife, Susie, of Eugene and Richard Mestrich Sr. of Concord, Calif.; three daughters, Christine Matson and her husband, Dwight, and Katherine Heck and her husband, Nicholas, all of Astoria, and Paula Mestrich Young and her life partner, Huey McLaughlin, of Battle Ground, Wash.; a sister, Sister Miriam-Philip of Lake Oswego; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Philip, Robert and Frank Friedrich; and a sister, Anna-Marie Friedrich.

A memorial Mass will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the St. Mary’s Memorial Fund or St. Mary’s Mass, 1465 Grand Ave., Astoria, OR 97103, or the American Diabetes Association, 380 S.E. Spokane St., Suite 110, Portland, OR 97202.
