Doris Gertrude Ball

Doris Gertrude Ball, 85, of Knappa, formerly of Woodburn, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, in Knappa.

She was born Nov. 30, 1925, in Glen Elder, Kan., to Charles D. and Bertha (Bilsland) Howe. She was the youngest of six children. In 1927, the family moved to Woodburn.

On Dec. 14, 1943, she married Armon Linford Ball Jr. in Woodburn. He preceded her in death in April 1980.

Mrs. Ball was a homemaker. She worked for the Thrifty 88 cent store in Woodburn.

She was active in the Woodburn Campfire Girls.

Family members said she enjoyed sewing, gardening, camping and spending time with her family.

She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Penelope and James Moisen of Portland, Victoria O'Dell of Keizer and Charlene Lingo of Irrigon; a son, Armon L. "Pete" Ball III and his wife, Patsy, of Knappa; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Richard Howe; three sisters, Margery Fast, Kathryn Buchanan and Mildred Steinhaus; and a grandson, Cristen O'Dell.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date in Woodburn.

Interment will be at the Bell Passi Cemetery in Woodburn.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Shriners Hospital for Children, 3101 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97239, Lower Columbia Hospice, 486 12th St., Astoria, OR 97103, or a charity of one's choice.
