Aries Everett Sleutel, 85, of Warrenton, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011 in Warrenton.
He was born May 31, 1926 in Toppenish, Wash., to John A. Sleutel.
He grew up in Hermiston. He married Helen Swaggert in the late 1940s. They later divorced. On Nov. 5, 1955, he married Marion Johns in Stevenson, Wash. She preceded him in death July 29, 2004. Mr. Sleutel worked in canneries in the Clatsop County area. He also delivered feed to mink farms. His hobbies included working on cars, playing pool, shuffleboard and coaching baseball.
He was a member of Clatsop Post 12 American Legion and Astoria Elks Lodge, BPOE No. 180.
He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Jody and Don Abing of Astoria, and Barbara Sleutel of Bend; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Tracy Sleutel of Astoria and John and Jean Sleutel of Warrenton; two sisters-in-law, Patsy Sleutel of Vancouver, Wash., and Jeanne Johns of Astoria; a mother-in-law, Chongnak Johns of Warrenton; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, George Sleutel, and a granddaughter, Melissa Sleutel.
A Celebration of Life will be held later.
