Rosa Lee Sterry

Rosa Lee Sterry, age 70, of Svensen, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, in Svensen. She was born Feb. 17, 1941, in Colorado Springs, Colo., to Earl Foster and Opal Irene (Christian) Reed. She was raised in Colorado and Utah, graduating from high school in Provo, Utah. She attended Western Wyoming Community College and received an associate’s degree. On May 31, 1959, she married Robert C. Sterry. He preceded her in death Sept. 24, 1998. During their marriage, the couple lived in various cities. Mrs. Sterry was a homemaker for the majority of her life. She worked for a period of time at the hospital in Walla Walla, Wash., as a ward secretary. She moved with her family to Clatsop County from Milton-Freewater in 2005, and has resided here since. Family members said her hobbies included reading, spending time with family, beading, cribbage and her iPod. She is survived by three daughters, Susan and Denise Sterry of Astoria and Sharon Sterry of Tigard; a son, Daniel Sterry of Casper, Wyo.; four grandsons, Calvin Sterry of Astoria, Robert Sterry and Curt Richards of Salt Lake City and Dennis Sterry of Denver; two sisters, Winona Sterry of Colorado and Gwen Tolbert of Washington; and four brothers, Lloyd and Robert Reed of Utah, Roy Reed of Oregon and Leonard Reed of Washington. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Juanita Sterry and Myrna Austin; and a brother-in-law, Ralph Sterry. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave. A private graveside service will be held at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Autism Society, 4340 East-West Highway, Suite 350, Bethesda, MD 20814. Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary in Astoria is in charge of the arrangements.
