Noel Stanley Thayer,age 97, of Astoria, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, in Astoria. He was born Aug. 10, 1914, in Napavine, Wash., to Rudolph and Lulu (Thompson) Thayer. His mother died when he was 6 years old. During World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. On July 1, 1941, he married Elsie B. Gates in Astoria. She preceded him in death. He married Margaret M. Wilson in the late 1960s. She preceded him in death July 26, 1989. Mr. Thayer moved to Clatsop County in 1941, settling in the Jeffers Gardens area of Astoria. In 1950, he moved to Knappa, where he resided until 2010. He drove a delivery truck for Nehalem Valley Freight Co. for several years. He also worked on the Trojan Nuclear Power Plant for a few years. He retired in 1980. He was a member of Clatsop Post 12 American Legion. After retiring, he was involved with 4-H on his ranch in Knappa. He is survived by a daughter, Linda Geisler of Astoria; two grandchildren, Theresa Geisler and Ronald Geisler Jr. and his wife, Linda, all of Knappa; six great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Pamela Campbell and Lisa Geisler. A celebration of life reception will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the Svensen Senior Center, 92648 Svensen Market Road in Svensen.
