Hazel Boebert Stephens

Hazel Boebert Stephens, 102, of Astoria, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, in Astoria.

She was born Jan. 24, 1909, in Astoria, to Samuel and Ida J. (Seeklander) Sutter.

Raised in Astoria, she graduated from Astoria High School in 1928, and started working for the Astoria Budget newspaper.

In June 1931, she married Frank L. Boebert in Astoria. He preceded her in death in February 1971.

In March 1975, she married Omer O. Stephens Sr. in Astoria. He preceded her in death in July 1976.

Mrs. Stephens worked for Bumble Bee Seafoods for more than 30 years.

She was a member of the Astoria Christian Church.

Family members said her hobbies included traveling and working in her yard.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Frank L. and Renata Boebert of Venice, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol M. and Mick Shepard of Hammond; 10 grandchildren, Jeff Shepard and his wife, Arja, of Knappa, Bryon Shepard and his wife, Joyce, of Hammond, Raimie Wright and her husband, Lance, of Long Beach, Wash., Gary Barrows, Linda Stephens and her husband, Steve White, Dan Stephens and his wife, Cindy, and Cheryl Long and her husband, Greg, all of Astoria, Daniela Titterton and her husband, Phillip, of Tolland, Conn., Sabrina Crawford of Seattle and Omer “Steve” Stephens III of Seaside; a son-in-law, Lee Kaufman of Long Beach; a daughter-in-law, Onie Stephens of Hammond; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert S. Boebert; a daughter, Ida Kaufman; a stepson, Omer O. Stephens Jr.; and a brother, Gifford Sutter.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, and 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Dec. 1, at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary.

Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery
