David W. Haggerty Jr.

David W. Haggerty Jr., 98, of Seaside, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, in Seaside.

He was born Nov. 20, 1913, in Denver, to David Haggerty Sr. and Regina (Donegan) Haggerty.

The oldest of eight children, he was raised in New York. The family moved back to Estes Park, Colo.

In 1939, he met and married Freeda Cooper in Estes Park. She survives, residing in Seaside. The couple settled in Portland.

Mr. Haggerty worked for Union Pacific Railroad in Portland as a steward in the dining car and hotel department, retiring at 60 as a superintendent of the Portland office. In 1975, he moved to Tolovana Park, where he co-owned the Driftwood Inn Restaurant in Cannon Beach. He sold his interest in the restaurant to his daughter and son-in-law in 1985.

Family members said he was a devout member of St. Peter The Fisherman Catholic Church in Arch Cape. He enjoyed playing golf and traveling.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Terry and John Ward of Cannon Beach; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Peggy Haggerty of Salem and Paul and Claudia Haggerty of Sisters; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 120 Oceanway St. in Seaside. A reception will follow in the church Hall.
