Eleanor Myrtle Johnson, 88, of Tigard, formerly of Clatsop County, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, in Tigard.
She was born Oct. 11, 1923, in Chicago, to Jacob and Myrtle Julia (Lovestead) DeYoung.

The family moved to Colton during the Great Depression. She graduated from high school at Girls Polytechnic in Portland. Family members said she was a gifted writer who wrote plays during high school as well as the program for her graduation. For three years, she attended the University of Oregon.
On April 26, 1946, she married John R. Johnson in Russell, Ky. He preceded her in death Sept. 9, 2008.
Mrs. Johnson and her husband lived in several cities in Oregon before moving to Knappa in 1953. They moved to Warrenton in 1974, residing there until 2003, then moved to King City.
She attended the Astoria Assembly of God Church. She last attended Faith Journey Church in Tigard.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Virginia Johnson of Crabtree, Mark and Susan Johnson of Mustang, Okla., and Roland and Priscilla Johnson of Tigard; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Mike Young of Eugene and Janet and Stan McAtee of Stanwood, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Wesley Johnson, in 1963.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, and 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Caldwell's Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave.
A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Knappa Assembly of God Church, 41767 Old Highway 30.
Private vault interment was held at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
