Eugene Arnel Wage

Eugene Arnel Wage, 79, of Astoria, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, in Astoria.

He was born April 8, 1932, in Astoria, to Arnel and Teresa Wage.

Raised in Jewell and graduated from Jewell High School in 1950.

From 1950 to 1954, during the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy.

On June 6, 1953, he married Peggy Sage in Brattleboro, Vt. She survives, residing in Astoria.

Mr. Wage worked at Lovell Auto Company as a mechanic for 34 years, retiring in 1991.

Family members said he enjoyed fishing, kayaking and camping.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Debra Wage and Sue and Kent Hawkins, all of Astoria, and Sandra Wage of Chinook, Wash.; three grandchildren, Mike Hawkins and Jeff Hawkins and his wife, Marjo, all of Astoria, and Tiffany Golden and her husband, Nick, of Warrenton; two sisters, Frances Scofield and Patricia Moore; two brothers, Bill and Tom Wage; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Bethany Free Lutheran Church, 451 34th St. A reception will follow the service.
