Richard Craig DeMars, 70, of Seaside, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2012 in Seaside.
He was born May 16, 1941 in Portland to Everett E. DeMars and June A. Pennington DeMars.
He was raised in Portland.
On April 29, 1960, he married Sherry Spain in Portland. She survives at the family home.
Mr. DeMars served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1960 to 1981. The family moved to Clatsop County from Alaska in 1974 and has resided here since. After his retirement from the Coast Guard, Mr. DeMars worked at the Seaside Police Department from 1983 to 1996. He was an elected official with the Hamlet Volunteer Fire Department.
His hobbies included woodworking and model building.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Kimberly D. Zywicki, of Portland; one son, Mark E. DeMars, of Battle Ground, Wash.; a sister, Alice J. Rodun, of Ocean Park, Wash.; one brother, Gregory J. DeMars, of Portland; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held later.
