Lyal Lee Green, 73, of Astoria, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, in Portland.
He was born April 14, 1938, in Centralia, Wash., to Cecil and Gertrude (Young) Green. His parents and stepmother, Trixie Green, preceded him in death.
On Dec. 11, 1985, he married Liz Grimit-Greene in Clatskanie. She survives, residing in Astoria.
After completing his education, Mr. Green apprenticed to become a carpenter. He worked for several years in Montana as a journeyman carpenter before moving to the Pacific Northwest. In 1965, he come to Astoria on a family vacation and decided to relocate. He joined the Laborers Union Local 320 to take a job building the Astoria Bridge, and remained a union member for 47 years. The last 20 years of his career were spent working for CA Taggart Construction.
He was a member of Clatsop Post 12 American Legion, Rainier Eagles Aerie No. 4022 and a 45-year member of Chehalis (Wash.) Moose Lodge No. 1109. He was also a charter member of the Fort Clatsop Muzzleloaders.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, David Green of Troutdale; a daughter, Evone Dillmann of Greely, Colo.; five sisters, Sharon Stewart, Janice Weaver and Arnell Booth, all of Vancouver, Wash., Ann Carver of Morton, Wash., and his twin, Lyla Ackerlund of Havre, Mont.; a brother, Larry Thrash of Eugene; four grandchildren, Christopher Green of Torrington, Wyo., Nicole Green of Troutdale, Alecia and Holly Dillmann of Greely; and a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Green of Torrington.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Wickland; and a stepdaughter, Denise Greene-Sjolin.
A memorial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Caldwell's Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave.
