Rena E. Reimers, 86, of Lake Oswego, formerly of Astoria, died Thursday, March 15, 2012, in Lake Oswego.
She was born May 29, 1925, in St. Maries, Idaho, to Jim and Annie Gallagher.
She was raised in St. Maries with five siblings, including a twin brother.
She married Art Wohlfeil. He preceded her in death in 1979.
She married Paul Reimers. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Mrs. Reimers moved to Astoria in 1945, working as a waitress at local restaurants. In 1963, she took training at Point Adams and became a fish filleter. She retired from the Barbey Cannery in 1994. In her early 70s, she traveled to Russia twice with a team to introduce fish processing to a community near Petropavlovsk, on the Kamchatka Peninsula. In 2007 she went to live in the Memory Care Unit of The Pearl at Kruse Way in Lake Oswego.
She volunteered at the Loaves and Fishes senior lunch site for about 10 years.
She is survived by three daughters, Patrice “Lollie” Carpenter of Shelton, Wash., Barbara Brewster of Lewiston, Idaho, and Valerie Heminger of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Frances Walters of St. Maries; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Patnode, in 2003.
A memorial will be announced at a later date.
