Yvonne Elizabeth Howe

Yvonne Elizabeth Howe, age 81, of Astoria, died Saturday, March 17, 2012, in Astoria. She was born June 23, 1930, in Petersburg, Neb., to Frederick and Anna (Beckman) Schalk. In 1941, the family moved to Astoria, where she attended Star of the Sea School and graduated from Astoria High School in 1948. After high school, she worked for Home Baking Company for a couple of years. In 1950, she married Bernard D. Howe in South Bend, Wash. He preceded her in death in 1987. Mrs. Howe enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her family. Family members said her hobbies included flowers and gardening. She loved animals. She is survived by a daughter, Vicki Howe of Astoria; a brother, Dorsey Schalk of Vancouver, Wash.; a brother-in-law, Gordon Howe of Astoria; a sister-in-law, Betty Jo Heiner of Astoria; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Howe requested that there be no service. Memorial contributions may be given to the Astoria High School Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 598, Astoria, OR 97103 or a charity of one’s choice.
