Roxanna Maria Nelson, “Roxy” 58, of Astoria, passed away Thursday March 29, 2012 in Astoria with her husband and daughters by her side.
Roxy was born July 2, 1953 in Garden City, Michigan to Stanley and Dorothy (Forseth) Lizon. The family moved from Michigan to Astoria when she was just an infant. Roxy graduated from Astoria High School in 1971 and attended Clatsop Community College obtaining an Associates Degree in bookkeeping.
In 1975 she married Roger Moore of Astoria. They divorced in 1988.
In 1992 she met her husband Kenneth C. Nelson. He survives residing in Astoria.
For over 20 years Roxy has worked as a bookkeeper for Nygaard Logging and Warrenton Fiber Company. She enjoyed her job and loved the people she worked with. Roxy had a great love for her family but her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren. They were the center of her life. Roxy loved the outdoors, camping in the Mt. Hood area with her family, reading adventure novels and traveling to Eastern Oregon. Roxy had an inner light that shined in her eyes and was a comfort to all who knew her, she had a way about her that made everyone feel at ease.
In addition to her husband she is survived by six children, Travis Moore of Warrenton, Desiree Spreen and husband Justin of St. Helens, OR, Melissa Myers and husband Landon of Nehalem, OR, Tonya Penton of Covington, LA, Tracy Birdeno and husband Adrian of Astoria, April Savage and husband Jonathan of Holiday, FL. Ten grandchildren Erika Penton of Covington, LA, Michael and Halle Moore of Warrenton, Alaliyah and Teagan Birdeno of Astoria, Brayden and Camden Myers of Nehalem, OR, Koltin and Trygg Savage of Holiday, FL and Ashleigh Spreen of Florence, OR. Parents Dagfinn and Dorothy Meyer of Astoria. Step-Mother Marsha Lizon of Astoria. Three sisters and brother-in-laws, Laurie and Dean Jones, LaDonna and Greg Olson and Shelly and Troy Lindgren all of Astoria. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Stanley Lizon in 1998 and a brother Randy Lizon in 1975.
At her request no funeral services will be held. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Sunday April 15, 2012 at The Loft in The Red Building in Astoria from 1pm – 4pm.
