Dellora Evangeline Duoos, 86, of Astoria, died Saturday, April 7, 2012, in Portland.
She was born Sept. 27, 1925, in Astoria, to Anna Sabina Koljonen Pasonen and Aksel Pasonen.
In 1943, she graduated from Astoria High School.
After high school, she worked for AT&T as a ship-to-shore telephone operator in Astoria.
In 1948, she married Roy Albert Duoos. He preceded her in death. She met him while working at the telephone office when he was a construction contractor installing a new door there.
After raising her children, Mrs. Duoos went back to work as a fish filleter at a cannery in Astoria. She was an artist later in life, and began painting in her early 60s. She was also proficient in ceramics, and her signature was painting eyelashes on her ceramic animals. She was also a talented seamstress.
Family members said she took care and pride in how she looked. She was a master pie maker, and had a green thumb. She enjoyed tending to her many African violets and her outdoor gardens, and loved cruises and traveling to Scandinavia to visit relatives, and Mexico to see the historical sites. She also enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren, was an expert Scrabble and crossword puzzle player, and loved to watch NBA basketball, NFL football, Portland Trail Blazers and Seattle Seahawks games on TV. She spent many Astoria Midsummer Scandinavian Festivals making and selling Finnish cardamom bread and lefse at the Sons of Norway booth.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Nick Bourgazas and Jennifer Duoos and Doug Brown, all of Portland; five grandchildren, Gregory Lars Duoos of Lafayette, La., Emilia Duoos and Roy and Zoey Bourgazas, all of Portland, and Essie Covell of Seaside; two great-grandsons, Ares Covell of Seaside and Loki Ahlstrom of Portland; a sister-in-law, Elaine Boone of Albany; a daughter-in-law, Sirpa Duoos of Astoria; and two cousins, Lorraine Gimre of Astoria and Bess Tormanen of Brush Prairie, Wash.
She was preceded in death by a son, Terry Duoos; and a stepson, Gary Duoos.
Private burial will be at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
