Edward Jolly "Ed" Hillard Sr.

Edward Jolly “Ed” Hillard, 66, of Astoria, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, in Astoria.

He was born July 2, 1945, in Astoria, to Joseph Laru and Sigrid Margaret (Jakkola) Hillard.

In 1963, he graduated from Astoria High School.

He served in the National Guard.

Mr. Hillard worked for most of his adult life at the Warrenton Lumber Mill. He lived his entire life in the Jeffers Gardens area of Astoria. During this time, he moved once and even then, stayed in the same neighborhood.

He was a member of Clatsop Post 12 American Legion.

Family members said his hobbies included working on cars, woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren. He was the consummate handyman who could fix just about anything.

He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Pat and George Wikstrom of Astoria; four sons and daughters-in-law, Jamey and Jenny Hillard, David and Michelle Hillard and Robin and Emily Hillard, all of Astoria, and Ed Hillard Jr. and his wife, Cindy, of Ilwaco, Wash.; 15 grandchildren, who all live in the surrounding area, Alexandra and Garret Hillard, Lanie Rogers and her husband, Chris, Ed Hillard III and Alexander Hillard, Scott and Rachel Brewer, Aidan, Alan, Emma, Owen, and Amelia Hillard and Ebin, Corbin and Bronson Hillard; and his companion, Judy Pullinger of Astoria.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Hillard.

A memorial will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Clatsop Post 12 American Legion.
