September 11, 1915 — April 26, 2012

Ann Hodgman “Annie” Heavenrich, 96, of Astoria, died Thursday, April 26, 2012, in Astoria.

She was born Sept. 11, 1915, in Coldwater, Mich., to Willis Edwin and Cornelia (Wilding) Hodgman.

Raised in Coldwater, she graduated from high school there. She attended the University of Michigan School of Nursing and received a nursing degree.

In 1940, she married Walter Heavenrich in Detroit. He preceded her in death in 1989. The couple met while she was in college.

Mrs. Heavenrich was a homemaker for more than 20 years. She then went back to work at a pediatric clinic in Birmingham, Mich., for 15 years. After her husband died, she moved to the Brownsmead area of Astoria to live close to her family.

She was very active and worked as a volunteer at many places, including in her daughter-in-law’s kindergarten class and the Astoria Senior Center, checking blood pressure for many seniors. She was also a bedtime story reader at KMUN Radio for eight years and played the hand bells at the First Presbyterian Church in Astoria, where she was a member. She was treasurer for the Brownsmead Grange for several years.

Family members said she enjoyed attending potlucks, gardening, walking her dogs, being a loyal fan of the Brownsmead Flats and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Don Nascimben of Redford, Mich., and Mary and James Wolfe of Saginaw, Mich.; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Charly Heavenrich of Boulder, Colo., Bob and Vivian Heavenrich of Tonasket, Wash., Ned and Lulu Heavenrich of Brownsmead and Sandy and Kate Heavenrich of Richmond, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Chris Wolfe and his wife, Michelle, of Shell Beach, Calif., Lisa Schott of Gloucester, Mass., Dan Schott of Livonia, Mich., Dawn Schott of Westland, Mich., Rosa Heavenrich of Tonasket, Otis Heavenrich and his wife, Bree, of Astoria, Eliza Heavenrich of Hood River, Jeb Heavenrich of Princeton, N.J., Jessica Heavenrich of Virginia Beach, Va., and Kari Heavenrich of Richmond; and seven great-grandchildren.
