Dennis Randall “Randy” Bloom, age 63, of Warrenton, died Sunday, May 13, 2012, in Astoria.He was born Oct. 15, 1948, in Shiloh, Ill., to Raymond Harold and Doris Leona (Sanders) Bloom. Raised in the Bay Area of California, he graduated from College Park High School in 1966. On Oct. 18, 1969, he married Debra Jean Backus in Martinez, Calif. She survives, residing in Warrenton. Mr. Bloom enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for nine years. After his discharge from the Navy, he went to college and received an associate’s degree in Yuba City, Calif. He then enlisted into the U.S. Coast Guard and served until January 1995. While with the Coast Guard, he and his family moved to Clatsop County in 1992, and have resided here since. Family members said his hobbies included playing guitar, electronics and woodworking. He loved watching football and golf. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Robert Humphries of Knappa; a son and daughter-in-law, Tracy and Michelle Bloom of Sequim, Wash.; six grandchildren, Brandon Slaughter of Warrenton, Jessica Slaughter of Astoria, Michael and Joseph Bloom of Port Angeles, Wash., and Ashley and Justin Lines of Sequim; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sandy Skaggs of Anchorage, Alaska, and Debbie and Bob Cress of Montana; and a brother and sister-in-law, Rodney and Lilly Bloom of Nevada. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at St. Frances de Sales Mission, 867 Fifth Ave. in Hammond. A graveside service will follow at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank, 1465 Grand Ave., Astoria, OR 97103. Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary in Astoria is in charge of the arrangements.
