Reese Andrew Kauppi

Reese Andrew Kauppi, 23, of Astoria, died Thursday, July 5, 2012, in McMinnville.

He was born Aug. 13, 1988, in Astoria, to Kenneth Kauppi and Beth Griffin, who survive. His father and his companion, Autumn Zorich, reside in Astoria; his mother and her companion, Jeff Autencio, reside in McMinnville.

Born and raised in Astoria, Oregon, he attended Astor Grade School, Astoria Middle School and graduated from Astoria High School in 2006. While in school, he loved playing soccer and played varsity soccer in high school.

Mr. Kauppi attended Oregon State University, majoring in education. He also attended Western Oregon State, and helped coach soccer both in college and summers at Astoria High School.

He was baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Later, he attended Peace Lutheran Church with his family.

Family members said his hobbies included camping, music, painting, traveling and spending time with his family.

He is survived by two brothers, Jeffrey Kauppi of Hawaii and Adam Kauppi of Astoria; a sister, Kambell Kauppi of Astoria; a grandfather, Vern Griffin and his wife, Elma Rae, of Astoria; and extended family in Finland.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 12, at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave. in Astoria.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.

A celebration of life memorial will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at the Clatsop County Fairgrounds, 92937 Walluski Loop in Astoria.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Reese Kauppi Memorial Fund, in care of the Bank of Astoria, 1122 Duane St., Astoria, OR 97103 or to a charity of one’s choice.
