Harley John "Ike" Eycleshymer Jr.

Harley John “Ike” Eycleshymer Jr., age 63, of Astoria, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, in Portland.

He was born March 27, 1949, in Canastota, N.Y., to Harley John Eycleshymer Sr. and Marion Bernice (Williams) Eycleshymer.

Raised in Walla Walla, Wash., he graduated from high school there in 1967. He then moved to Astoria and attended Clatsop Community College, receiving an associate’s degree in 1969.

Mr. Eycleshymer worked in heavy construction and as a truck driver. He also worked on the Tillamook Jetty and Bonneville Dam. He had worked for several years, and was still working, for Bayview Transit Mix in Gearhart.

Family members said his hobbies included fishing, hunting, nature and watching ice hockey.

He is survived by two sisters, Nancy Earls of Salem and Peggy Kile of Warrenton; four nieces, Lori Walters and Barbara Grafton of Astoria, Kimberly Kile of Seaside and Valerie Steele of Salem; and a nephew, Michael Vanderhule of Knappa.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James Eycleshymer; and a niece, Vanessa Potts.

A celebration of life potluck will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Warrenton Community Center, 170 S.W. Third St. in Warrenton.
