David William Tagg, 81, of Warrenton, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, in Warrenton.
He was born July 17, 1931, in Astoria, to Harold W. Tagg and Nancy Irwin Morrison Tagg, who was the granddaughter of Capt. Robert Morrison who settled on Clatsop Plains in 1945.
Mr. Tagg attended Morrison Grade School, Seaside High School and spent a short time at Oregon State University. He was in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After getting out of the Army, he bought a farm on Clatsop Plains next to the family farm.
He married Beverly Bowdler Jan. 28, 1956. She survives, residing in Warrenton.
The Taggs sold their farm, which later became Glenwood Village, in 1967, and moved to Seaside, where they lived for 33 years, before moving back to Clatsop Plains in 2000.
Mr. Tagg worked for Crown Zellerbach as a heavy equipment operator for 23 years, until they sold out in 1985. Then, he bought freight trucks which he operated with his sons, Randy and Tim, until his retirement.
On Feb. 20, 1959, he and his wife were baptized as Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was an active minister in the Seaside congregation.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law, Gerry and Jeanne Tagg of Seaside, Randy and Linda Tagg of Fossil and Kelly Tagg Beers of Warrenton; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Rick Smith of White Bear Lake, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Tagg of Warrenton; one brother-in-law, Robert Bowdler of Oroville, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Justin Tagg of Port Angeles, Wash., Tammy Swanberg of Ellensburg, Wash., Kellie Frech and David K. Tagg, both of Fossil, Lisa Alfonse of Minot, N.D., Nick Tagg of Warrenton, Katlyn Kloeckl of Minnesota; and Kyle Smith of White Bear Lake; eight great-grandchildren; two nieces; two nephews; and extended family, Warren and Sissy Blakslee of Bonita Springs, Fla., and their daughter, Chrystal Catherman of Wisconsin; and his best friend Roy Hazen of Seaside.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Donald Tagg; and a son, Timothy Tagg.
A memorial will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 at the Seaside Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2667 U.S. Highway 101 N., Seaside.
