Charles Franklyn Archer, age 89, of Fort Myers, Fla., died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, after a brief illness, on vacation at his daughter’s home in Warrenton. He was surrounded by family. He was born Oct. 15, 1922, in Groton, Conn. As a young man, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was very proud to have served as a fighter pilot in World War II, and told amazing stories. He married Vivian Rowzee Archer. She preceded him in death. He married Gloria Dupont Glenn Archer. She survives, residing in Fort Myers. In 1947, Mr. Archer began a long career with Pfizer Corporation. He earned an associate’s degree from Mitchell College while working, and eventually retired as a safety engineer. Family members said he loved golfing, aviation, cars, spending time with family and keeping busy. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Karen Anderson of Warrenton; a grandson, Charles Anderson and his wife, Megan, of Newberg; a great-granddaughter, Norah Anderson of Newberg; and a brother, Donald Archer of Kingston, Ga. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Archer; and a sister, Maude Kittredge. Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary in Astoria is in charge of the arrangements.
