Judith Miner "Judy" Crandall

Judith Miner “Judy” Crandall, age 73, of Seaside, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, in Tualatin. She was born Feb. 3, 1939, in Boston, to Howard and Julia Helen (Sanborn) Miner. Raised in Boston, as a young child she learned how to swim. She enjoyed singing, and was a member of a Sweet Adelines quartet in Massachusetts. After high school, she married and began raising her two children. She later divorced, attended college in Boston, and received a bachelor’s degree in education as an earth science and biology teacher. She moved to Florida and continued to teach school, and earned her master’s degree. While in Florida, her main interest was in marine biology, and she scuba dived, collecting specimens for her classes. In 1997, she moved to Portland. On Sept. 27, 1999, she married Ronald J. Crandall in Portland. He survives, residing in Seaside. The couple first resided in Nehalem. In 2001, Mrs. Crandall and her husband moved to Seaside. She was a member of the Cannon Beach Choir, the Seaside United Methodist Church and choir, and the Seaside Sweet Adelines Choir. She and her husband enjoyed traveling, especially to the Galapagos Islands where she enjoyed snorkeling, Iceland and many other countries. She loved her flowers, singing and enjoyed taking walks with her husband. Family members said one of her greatest accomplishments was that she was able to publish her own book on multiple sclerosis before she died. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dianna and Robert Wuagneux of Castleton, Vt.; a son, Scott Maskell of El Sobrante, Calif.; five grandchildren, Jennifer Miller of Florida, Briana Wuagneux of New York, N.Y., Robert Wuagneux of Georgia, Michael Maskell of El Sobrante, Calif., and Ashly Maskell of Richmond, Calif.; a sister and brother-in-law, Penelope and Robert Shinnick of Kauai, Hawaii; a brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Olga Scheidel of New York; two stepdaughters and their spouses, Elizabeth and Rick Gaupo and Deborah and Mike Walsh, all of Salem; and eight stepgrandchildren, Holden and Isabela Gaupo and Marah, Toby, Kyan and Ronan Walsh, all of Salem, and Keisha Ochoa and Kelsey Walsh, both of Yakima, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Seaside United Methodist Church. A reception will follow at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Seaside United Methodist Church, 241 N. Holladay Drive, Seaside, OR 97138. Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary in Astoria is in charge of the arrangements.
