Teri Lynn Sarkie Leach

Teri Lynn Sarkie Leach, 53, of Knappa, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, in Astoria.

She was born April 10, 1959, in Longview, Wash., to Delbert J. “Del” and Kathryn J. (Payne) “Kitty” Sarkie. Her parents survive, residing in Knappa.

Raised in Knappa, she graduated from Knappa High School in 1977.

She attended Oregon State University in Corvallis for a year, Lower Columbia College in Longview for a year, and Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, where she received an associate’s degree.

On Aug. 21, 1981, she married Dennis Leach in Knappa. He survives, residing in Knappa.

Mrs. Leach worked as a bookkeeper for Yeargen & Meyer accounting firm in Astoria. She then worked for Hauke’s Market as a bookkeeper in Astoria until the company closed. At the time of her death, she was working as a part-owner/operator and bookkeeper with her husband at Danger Den, a computer/components manufacturing company in Knappa.

She was baptized, confirmed and married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Knappa.

Family members said she was very artistic, and enjoyed painting and crafts. She loved sports, was a big Oregon State Beaver fan and was a big supporter of the Knappa High School sports teams. She and her husband would supply a dinner for the team players the night before a game.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Bren and Brady Leach of Knappa; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Londa Sarkie of Astoria; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dan and Karin Leach of Seattle; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Jeffrey Ashmead of Wendell, Idaho; her godparents, Marilyn and Elton Anderson of Brownsmead; an aunt and uncle, Peggy and Carl Winston of Vancouver, Wash.; a mother-in-law and father-in-law, Emily and Wayne “BD” Fischer of Arlington, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Henry White; and a niece, Ashley Leach.

A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 42417 Valley Creek Lane in Astoria. A reception will follow at the church.

A private graveside service was held at Knappa Prairie Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Knappa Schools Athletic Program, 41535 Old Highway 30, Astoria, OR 97103.
