Elizabeth Palmer “Liz” Preston, 96, of Astoria, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, in Astoria.
She was born June 19, 1916, in Tyrone, Okla., to Aaron Stinchcomb Palmer and Nora Belle (King) Palmer.
She graduated from Tyrone High School in 1932. Following graduation, she moved to Southern California, where she received a Certificate of Business from Chaffee Junior College in Claremont, Calif., in 1936.
On Dec. 7, 1940, she married Willard O. Preston in Yuma, Ariz. The were married for 67 years when he preceded her in death in 2008.
Following a three-month trip around the U.S. in 1955, Mrs. Preston and her family relocated to Riddle. In 1968, the couple moved to their 1893 dream farm house in Roseburg. For the next 39 years she enjoyed her grandchildren, harvesting plentiful garden goods and being active in the Melrose Grange, Friendly Kitchen and the Methodist Church. She and her husband moved to Clatsop Retirement Village in May 2007, where she was especially appreciated for her piano playing and friendly smile.
She is survived by four children and their spouses, Noralou and Les Roos of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Sara and Chuck Meyer of Astoria, Charles and Ingrid Preston of Roseburg, and William Preston of Fife, Wash.
A small celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Clatsop Retirement Village.
Interment was at Myrtle Creek Cemetery.
