Barbara Jean Burgher, 75, of Astoria, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, in Astoria.
She was born Dec. 26, 1936, in San Diego, to Kermit Clifton and Myrtle Louise (Rousse) Blair.
From March 8, 1955 to April 18, 1957, she served in the U.S. Marine Corps, where she received a Good Conduct Medal.
On April 8, 1957, she married Walter Dale Burgher in Honolulu. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Burgher moved to Clatsop County in 1959. She was a member of the Warrenton First Baptist Church, and a founding member of the Bayview Baptist Church in Astoria. She was a church volunteer and a Sunday school teacher for 35 years, and also volunteered at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Family members said she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Kristina Burgher of Ocean Park, Wash., and Stacey and Mike Cummings of Astoria; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Tami Burgher of Clatskanie and Erik and Carole Burgher of Warrenton; eight grandchildren, Shannon Vertefeville of Salem, Kelli and Katie Burgher of Clatskanie, Natalie, Gracie and Luke Cummings of Astoria and Matthew and Billy Burgher of Warrenton; two brothers, Kermit Blair of Salt Lake City and Doug Blair of Medford; and one great-grandson, Valen Vertefeville of Salem.
Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, followed by a funeral at 1 p.m., at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave.
Private interment will be at Bethany Memorial Cemetery in Warren.
