Imajean I. “Ippy” Pedersen, 86, of Astoria, died Monday, Dec. 17 2012, in Astoria.
She was born April 23, 1926, in Ridgefield, Wash., to Charles and Valna (Wright) Knapp.
On Feb. 14, 1955, she married John G. Pedersen, who was a shipwright. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Pedersen was a registered nurse who had a long career, beginning at St. Mary’s hospital in surgery. She then worked from 1968, until retiring in 1988, at the Medical Dental Center.
Family members said she loved sitting with her little dog and listening to family stories. Known for her kindness and sense of humor, she played video games with her grandchildren and card games with the family.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Karen Pedersen of Seaside and Susan and Lee Balcom of Knappa; a son and daughter-in-law, Tad and Nicole Pedersen of Knappa; four grandchildren, Jolene VanNevel and her husband, Chris, of Minnesota, Alyssa Garvey of Alameda, Calif., and Andrew Balcom and Andrew Pedersen of Knappa; a great-grandson, Conner VanNevel of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Clark; a sister and brother-in-law, Naomi and John Raade; a brother and sister-in-law, Marion and Violet Knapp; and two nephews, John Edward Raade and Danny Knapp.
No memorial is planned.
