Lavern Caroline Kunkler

Lavern Caroline Kunkler, 87, of Seaside, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, in Seaside.

She was born Dec. 8, 1925, in Natura, Okla., to Alvie and Sarah Florence (Kersey) Cullum.

She was raised in Natura.

On April 6, 1941, she married Kenneth K. Kunkler in Okmulgee, Okla. He preceded her in death March 23, 2004.

Mrs. Kunkler and her husband moved to California in 1946, then to Clatsop County in 1949. She worked in local seafood canneries in Warrenton, and retired in 1984.

Family members said her hobbies included playing cards, knitting, ceramics, and sewing. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Wayne Jarvis of Warrenton and Doll and Randy Horner of John Day; a son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Karen Kunkler of Camas, Wash.; six grandchildren, Donna Mullins and her husband, Duane, of Warrenton, Kelly Jensen and Randy Horner Jr. and his wife, Sarah, all of Medford, Kristen Shattuck and her husband, Tim, of Vancouver, Wash., Jeffrey Horner and his wife, Brandy, of Etna, Calif., and Andy Kunkler and his wife, Stephanie, of San Diego; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Saundra Horner, in 1973.

There will be no funeral, at Mrs. Kunkler’s request.
