Lois Cecelia Ahola

Lois Cecelia Ahola, 87, of Astoria, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, in Astoria.

She was born Oct. 10, 1925, in Astoria, to Johannes and Olga (Hauke) Henningsen.

Raised in Astoria, she graduated from Astoria High School in 1943, and attended Pacific Lutheran College.

Before marrying, she worked as a beautician in Seattle.

On April 21, 1946, she married John Alan Ahola in Astoria. He preceded her in death in 2010.

Mrs. Ahola co-owned the Custard King with her sister.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Hope Circle, Alderbrook Sewing Guild, Danish Society, Sons of Norway and the Astoria Anchors. She was actively involved in the Scandinavian Festival.

Family members said she loved to bake Scandinavian goodies such as lefsa, krumkage and fattigmand. She enjoyed gardening, and throughout her life she also enjoyed going on camping trips with her family and friends.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Wade and Mary Ahola of Sweet Home and Curt and Shelley Ahola of Astoria; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Roger Neal of Tacoma, Wash., Jill and Bart Adams of Fox Island, Wash., and Lori and Floyd Lacy of Bonney Lake, Wash.; 10 grandchildren, Ben Ahola and his wife, Jessica, and Rachel Tyler and her husband, Nick, all of Sweet Home, Mike Ness, Erik Neal and his wife, Meredith, and Brad Dinsmore, all of Tacoma, Matt Ness and Kai Ahola and his fiancee, Katie Morvec, all of Astoria, Jeremy Ahola and his wife, Kristie, of Tigard, Kelsey Kennedy and her husband, Jake, of Puyallup, Wash., and Joseph Lacy of Bonney Lake; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Florene Forseth, in 2013.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Greenwood Cemetery. A reception will follow at First Lutheran Church.
