Glenn Everett Larson

Glenn Everett Larson, 86, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013, at his home in Astoria, Oregon. Glenn was born June 4, 1926, to Oliver and Isabel (Ponsness) Larson in Badger, Iowa. He served in the Navy during WWII as a radarman and saw combat in Okinawa, Japan, at the end of the war.

After WWII, Glenn worked for John Deere. Glenn married Mildred Braun on January 28, 1951, in Fairbank, Iowa, and soon after moved west to Astoria, Oregon. He worked as a longshoreman and began his career of 35 and a half years of public service as a policeman for the city of Astoria until his retirement in 1988.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and being with family and friends. He will be remembered for his kindness and sense of humor.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Mildred, along with four children and their spouses; Steve and Sue Larson of Worland, Wyoming, Dave and Angela Larson of Simi Valley, California, Lynette and Allen Vollmer of Astoria, Oregon, and Roberta and Tim Thurber of North Plains, Oregon; 4 grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer (Lester) Zook of Boise, Idaho, Lori Vollmer of Corvallis, Oregon, Jodi Vollmer of Astoria, Oregon, and Justin (Brittany) Thurber, stationed at Camp Pendleton, California. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings, and daughter, Glenda.

Public viewing will be at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary on Monday, April 1, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A memorial service for Glenn will be held on April 2, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 565 12th Street, Astoria, Oregon. Private family interment will precede the memorial service.
