Shirley Lorraine (Crane) Schoessler

October 27, 1924 — April 26, 2013

Shirley Lorraine (Crane) Schoessler was born October 27th, 1924, to Matt & Signe Luoma in Portland, Oregon. They moved to Astoria in 1932.

She went to a 1 room school house from the 5th – 8th grade at Mountain View in Walluski. She graduated from Astoria High School in 1942, and married William (Bill) Crane June 12th, 1942. He died in June 1974. She later married Melvin Schoessler.

She worked 20 years in various canneries until the early 1970s. Later she spent 20 years as a food demonstrator at various local grocery stores.

She enjoyed camping, gardening, handwork, cooking and family. She will be missed for her stories, pleasant smile & sense of humor.

Survivors include husband of 37 years, Melvin, daughter Diana Velder (Duane), Allen Crane (Ludy), Alice Santilli (Ron), 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her only sister Barbara, and a brother who died in infancy.

Remembrances may be sent to the charity of your choice.

Visitation will be held Monday, 29th April, 2013, from 1-5 p.m. at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary.

Graveside services with vault interment will follow at Ocean View Cemetery, Warrenton, Oregon.

Reception will follow at Grace Community Baptist Church, 1195 Irving Ave., Astoria.
