Mark Mabry Flanagan was born Feb. 6, 1981, to Tom & Marilyn Olsen Flanagan. He attended Astoria schools, graduating from AHS in 1999. He was a member of the AHS swim team and worked as a lifeguard. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, where he attended Sunday school, and was baptized and confirmed.
In his mid-twenties he started working on a business degree through Ashworth College. However in March of 2009 he was diagnosed with brain cancer. Following surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, he was unable to continue his studies.
Mark enjoyed camping, fishing, photography, playing and listening to music and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his parents, who reside in Astoria, and grandparents Frank & Ursula Flanagan in California. Aunts & Uncles: Tom & Joanne Alfonse, Art & Penny Olsen of Astoria, Craig and Anna Flanagan of Las Vegas, Nev., Steven and Karen Flanagan of Winnetka, Calif.; and numerous cousins in Oregon, Calif., and Nevada.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother JoMarie Olsen in 2003, his brother Patrick in 2009, and grandfather Harlan Olsen January 2013.
A visitation well be held Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, Astoria, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday May 15, 2013, at First Lutheran Church at 1 p.m.; a reception will follow in the church basement.
