Jeanne Rae Johnston

Jeanne R. Johnston, 71, of Knappa, died Sunday June 9, 2013, at Community Hospice in Longview, Wash.

She was born February 28, 1942, in Havre, Montana, to Achsah Ida Huestis and Fred Vern Crites. Jeanne attended public schools in Gildford, Montana, never finishing High School until more than 40 years later, when she studied and earned her GED certificate. Jeanne also attended Beauty School and was a board certified Cosmetologist in the State of Montana. She owned and operated Jeanne’s Beauty Salon in Gildford, Montana, in the early 1960s.

Jeanne married Joe Johnston, Sept. 29, 1962, in Gildford, Montana. He survives at the family home in Knappa.

Jeanne was a born again Christian trusting the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She enjoyed cooking and her family. She will be remembered by her family as a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a Son, Dale Johnston of La Center, WA; a Son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Kristina Johnston of Westport, OR; three Granddaughters, Shayna Johnston of Westport, OR, Ashley Johnston of Kalispell, MT, and Kailah Birchler of Westport, OR; a Grandson, Nicholas Kriska of Salem; and a Sister, LaRena Stewart of Chinook, MT.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one Stillborn child, a grandson, Kane Funke, killed in Iraq, August 2004, and six sisters and six brothers.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 20, 2013, from 1-4 p.m. at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave., Astoria, Oregon.

Graveside Services will be held Friday, June 21, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Knappa Prairie Cemetery.

A reception will follow the graveside service, and will have plenty to eat, and will also include a Memorial for Jeanne at the family home in Knappa, 92821 Cherry Road, Astoria, OR 97103.
