James Ronald Rogers

June 28, 1943 — June 29, 2013

James Ronald Rogers of Seaside, June 28, 1943 to June 29, 2103. Born and raised in California and growing up in San Diego, James (Ronnie and Jimmy) Rogers started his entrepreneurial ventures at twelve years old by counting cans at his local grocer. He stayed in the grocery business for over twenty years until retiring as an account executive for Bradshaw Corp, a food brokerage firm. He became a San Diego Police officer and retired as a Sergeant after twenty-three years of service. Having fallen in love with Seaside while visiting his brother, Jim moved to Seaside in 1990. At that time he began Distinctive Carpet Care, which is now Chem Dry. His love of fun soon led him into another business venture called Wheel Fun Rentals, renting surreys, bikes, boats, electric cars and even a Hot Rod where you can, as Jim put it, cruise the gut and see all that Seaside has to offer. Jim was a star in the community of Seaside and he burned brightly. When he wasn’t working the gut or keeping carpets clean, you could find him on the golf course where his love and enthusiasm for the sport led him all the way to the famous St. Andrews course in Scotland. Jim played several tournaments and PGA courses across the U.S., bringing home many trophies and indelible memories. Jim was a great lover of critters large and small and raised several over the years. Watching native Oregon birds was a hobby of his, as was hanging out with his family and two dogs: Ziggy and Aber. Many residents are familiar with Aber as the “Dog on the Island.” Jim was a loving father, grandfather, and brother and is survived by his brother Bob and wife Terry of San Diego and Seaside, his sister Jo Ann and her Husband Terry of Colorado, daughters Denise and Carolyn of San Diego, daughters Grace and Roni and son Jesse of Seaside and grandsons James, Christopher, Caleb and Zach. He also leaves behind a loving partner, Lisa Gleason, who so tenderly aided him during his last four months. Jim had a huge heart and love for fun and people. He will be greatly missed but his sense of joy and love of Seaside will be remembered by the surreys, electric cars, bikes and boats that can be seen cruising the streets of Seaside every day. A memorial will be held Friday, July 12 at 7:00 p.m. at North Coast Family Fellowship.caldwellsmortuary.com
