Ann Charlotte Potter

January 28, 1936 — July 28, 2013

Ann Charlotte Potter drew her final breath in this world on July 28, 2013 in Astoria, Oregon; the same town in which she drew her first on January 28, 1936 and which she called home nearly all her days in between. Born to Louis and Olga Schairer of Astoria, she and her twin sister were the youngest of six children, two of whom still survive.
Ann was baptized in St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church and educated at Star of the Sea School, from which she graduated in 1954. An active and civic-minded member of her community from a young age, she was a Regatta Festival Princess in 1954 and USO Queen in 1956, as well as serving for many years as a volunteer in the Catholic Daughters, American Cancer Society, and the Lioness Club. She married Tom Potter in Astoria on November 26, 1966. Together they shared forty-six years of much laughter and a few tears. He was by her side when her soul passed into eternity.
A bookkeeper by occupation, Ann worked at First National Bank, Bumble Bee Seafoods, Columbia Memorial Hospital, and Point Adams Seafood. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading, tending her garden, and visiting with her large circle of friends. An avid collector, Ann very much enjoyed exploring garage sales and flea markets to enlarge her collections of porcelain figurines, plates, and other treasured items.
Ann is survived by her husband Tom and their three daughters, Pauline (Polly) Riutta and her husband John of Scappoose, Oregon, Catherine (Cathy) Stutznegger and her husband Norman of Astoria, and Jeanine (Jeany) Potter and her significant other Matt Cvitanovich of Astoria, as well as five grandchildren: Pamela Dahl of Portland, Oregon, Elizabeth Riutta of Scappoose, and Jeff, Ryan, and Karmen Stutznegger of Astoria. Also surviving are two sisters, Agnes Shriver of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Francis Duffy of Claremont, California, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday, August 5, 2013, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary 1165 Franklin Ave., Astoria, Oregon.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1465 Grand Ave., Astoria, Oregon. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
A reception will follow the Mass in the Star of the Sea School Auditorium.
Ann’s earthly remains will be laid to rest beside those of her father and mother at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton, Oregon, with a private graveside service.
Remembrances may be made to Lower Columbia Hospice.
Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Please sign the online guest book at www.caldwellsmortuary.com
