Eloise Dorothy Morgan died Wednesday, July 31, 2013, in Astoria. She was born December 19, 1917, in Lisbon, ND, to Arthur and Ellen (Ugstad) Ward. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 1935 and moved to Fargo, ND, to work at the telephone company business office.
On Sept. 6, 1941, she married Robert Henry Morgan in Glendive, Mont. He passed away April 6, 2009, after 67 years of marriage. They made their home in Fargo while Bob worked for Greyhound Bus. In April 1951, the family moved to Sheldon, ND, to purchase a farm that was owned by Eloise’s family. She was a hard worker, raising four children on a wheat and dairy farm. In 1968, at the age of 50, they sold the farm and moved to Astoria, as two of their children had moved there already. Eloise was determined to move to Oregon to be closer to her older children. Bob worked at the Astoria Plywood Mill and Eloise worked at Tongue Point Job Corps Center as a secretary in the infirmary. She loved the interaction with the students, and worked there until retirement in 1980.
Eloise enjoyed entertaining and spending time with her family and church members. She was her happiest when she could have people in her home and cooking for them. She was always available to take care of grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren, whenever needed. Eloise loved to smile, and she will be remembered for the beautiful smile she had for everyone she met.
Eloise is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Coreen Bergholm and her partner Ken Presthus, Janice and Jim Coughlin, all of Astoria; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry and Colleen Morgan of Astoria and Les Morgan of Warrenton; 10 grandchildren, Lynnette Shaw, Amy Coughlin, Sarah Morgan, Shelly Morgan and Robert Morgan all of Astoria, Ronnie Crank of Sandy, OR, Leah Johnson of Seattle, Lori Hundhausen of Shoreline, Wash., Charity Morgan of Vancouver, Wash., and Michael Morgan of Lillian, AL; a brother and sister-in-law Clark and Beverly Ward of Northfield, MN; and sister-in-law Mavis Morgan of West Fargo, ND. She was preceded in death by husband Robert Morgan; son, Gary Morgan; and son-in-law Ed Bergholm.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 8, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave., Astoria OR. The funeral will be held Friday, August 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary.
