Jeanne Meadows Risque

April 17, 1927 — August 17, 2013

Jeanne Meadows Risque was born 17 April, 1927, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Daughter of James & Agnes Meadows. Wife of Col. Risque (deceased). Preceded in death by children Charles Clayton Chason Jr. (deceased), Dana J. Gordon (deceased) and Gene M. Chason (deceased).

Four sisters and two brothers predeceased, Pattie Stringer, Glenda Jenkins, Betty McKeel, Sue Clark; brothers James Meadows, Garland Meadows. Survived by brother Jerry Meadows and many nieces and nephews. A special nephew Sammy McKeel and wife Katherine would see that “Aunt Jeanne” received her favorite collard greens & N.C. BBQ.

Mrs. Risque and Col. Risque lived in France during his U.S. Army assignment. Mrs. Risque spoke fluent French and was an accomplished French Chef, with many Astorians having the pleasure of enjoying her French and Southern meals.

Jeanne attended The American University in Washington, D.C., and received her Master’s Degree in “Master of Public Administration” (MPA). She retired as Program Director, U.S. Department of Energy, Senior Executive Service, in the early 90s. She relocated from Alexandria, Virginia, to Astoria, Oregon, in 1988.

During her time in Astoria, she took painting classes at Clatsop Community College and became a very accomplished painter. She was also a member of MENSA International (High I.Q. Society).

Jeanne was always very generous and ready to help those in need. She truly loved her family and friends. Many were people at Clatsop Retirement Village, such as the folks in the kitchen that made her “Black-Eyed Peas” and other goodies, and Annie who brought her flowers on difficult days that made her smile.

Jeanne will be greatly missed by her special friends Lan & Cory, Mimi, D’ann, Tony, Joan & Bud, Deanna, Diane, Elizabeth, Sally, Perri, Christine, Steve, Vici, Nicole, Annie, Bobbi, Aaron and all the caregivers at Clatsop Retirement Village.

Jeanne passed away peacefully at 6:17 p.m., 17 August. She will be laid to rest in the family plot in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Jeanne touched many lives and was a great friend. She will be sorely missed by many.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, August 22nd, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. at Clatsop Retirement Village, 947 Olney Ave., Astoria, Oregon.
